The Forth Kind

I went to see this movie and just have not been able to get rid of this feeling of frustration I feel about it. I feel the need to express my feelings about this movie in hopes to either find someone to talk about it with, or to just get it off my chest so I can finally be done with it.
I came away from the movie very disturbed, and was very let down when I found out that nothing about the movie was true at all. I felt somewhat cheated because I went to the movie based on that fact that it was based on events that had actually happened. I lost sleep because I thought that even if the 'actual footage' was faked that it was possible it was still based on something similar that had happened. But doing some research it seems that there is not even one grain of truth to it.
After getting over my anger I tried to think of why they would have filmed it and put the movie together like that. The truth of the matter is that the general population is somewhat Jaded by your stereotypical horror movie. I guess for generations they spent money and time trying to make the gore and violence you see in the movies ‘look’ like real life I guess the next step would be to make people actually viewing it believe that it IS real life.
This type of movie only has an impact if a person can leave themselves emotionally vulnerable and is able to relate to the helplessness of the characters involved with the story. I guess they thought the only way to achieve this was to have the person going to the movie think it was real and feel as if what they are seeing could in fact happen. When seen in this light it invokes an HP-Lovecraft psychological horror effect.
I don't think they needed to fool people to get that effect though. They could have said upfront that it was not real or made it more of a mocumentry. By trying to fool the public I feel it degrades the integrity of films that have actually been based on real events. I don't expect movies to tell the truth but I expect that movies said to be based on actual events should be. If you blur the line between fact and fiction how does someone know what to believe anymore.

*sighs* I guess I need to vent about it... here ends that rant.

Back to work

Not looking forward to going back to work today. My friend came over last night and we watched the first 4 episodes of 'Glee', which was a very good thing. I loved this series and it appeals to the music lover in me. However, we got to taking about work and she made a comment that the week I took off was pretty bad because it is starting to get extremely busy there.
After hearing this I sort of dread to go back because I have this feeling that after having been in a wonderful mood these past few days I'll be thrown back into that negativity and will totally get pulled back into it. *sighs*
I've requested booklets from some art colleges so I can pick one to go back for my masters, hopefully the thought that I am actually doing something to get out of that place will keep me in a positive frame of mind.
*crosses fingers*

On holiday vacation and loving it!

Carved a pumpkin tonight and had some roasted pumpkin seeds
that were just totally great!
Rinse Seeds off in some salted water so it can pick up the flavor
Cook for about 45-60 mins @ 250'
after dried take a pan with 1 & 1/2 TBSP of oil
(it said peanut oil but I used plain veggie oil)
heat and add 3TBSP of sugar along with the seeds
cover well and then move into a bowl and coat with following mixture...
1 & 1/2 - TBSP of Sugar
1 & 1/2 - TBSP Cinnamon
1/4 - tsp of Cumin
and a pinch of Cayenne pepper
(but I used 1/4 tsp of Chipotle pepper
cause goes well w/ cinnamon)

I have to say it is the BEST!
and I guess the pumpkin didn't come out too bad either *laughs*

Had a dream that I was staying with this old woman's place. I don't know exactly why I was there but I'm going to assume by the content of the dream that it was to learn from her. Somehow it related spells and magic to cooking. She had this whole chart about different foods with different seasons and depending on what and when you cooked it would have different effects. It also had in it something called 'Degrees of magic'. The magic was put in like a standard ingredient and depended on how much energy was expended in the use of the magic. I remember that the average degree of magic used in most of the foods was 388. I remember that you had to have a lot of practice in order to get it just right.
There was another girl there was well learning. She was like a sister, though I don't know if we were actually related or not. She didn't seem as happy, maybe because she wasn't as good of a student as I was *shrugs*

well most of the rest of it is kind of hazy right now and if that sounds weird I got woken up from this dream by the sound of an ice cream truck playing 'Rudolph the red nosed reindeer'

Some not so good news

My friend, Kristi's mother passed away today. It was a total shock to most of us having just spent the weekend over at their place. She was like a second mother to me and I know that it is hard on a lot of people right now cause she was loved so much.

Like Kristi said

"If how well you lived your life is measured in the people you touched while you were here she had one damn fine life. She treated every friend I ever had like they were one of her own and the depth and breadth of what that woman meant to me there just aren't words."

So in my dream I was in this really tall building, riding down the elevator. It was going down when all of a sudden there was a violent shake and it started going down faster, and faster, then WAY too fast to be good for hitting the bottom. It tilted slightly getting caught before it crashed and gave me a chance to pry open the doors and crawl out onto one of the floors. I knew that outside the building Kristi, Joe, and their family was there relaxing by the pool and I just knew something bad was going to happen;I had to get out there and warn them. I ran across the hotel like lobby and outside the large glass doors to see the sky was greenish/black and a large tornado coming right for the building. There wasn't time to go toward the pool, but by this time everyone pretty much could see what was on the way. I ran back inside the building and my night shift supervisor was working the lobby desk. I told her that she should really get to cover cause of the tornado and hid under the front lobby desk, to avoid any glass from the front window area. There was a loud noise that seemed to come from everywhere and that is when my alarm clock woke me up for work that morning playing the song 'Overkill'  by Collin Hay  >.>

Origins

My trip to Ohio was better then I thought it would be. The first thing that I noticed was that the city itself was very pretty. On all the light posts there were baskets of flowers in the colors of pink and purple that draped over the tops of the metal posts. It was quit different from what I’m used to. I was also surprised to find out that they had art classes offered. Not surprised that they were the most expensive events to sign up for, but I will say now it was SO worth it. The first one was a technique in acrylic paints that I found really interesting and the other was about how to draw a dragon.
There were also some gaming companies there testing their new systems.
http://www.silvervinegames.com/Svg/Downloads
This, though having a very 'anime' like feel was loads of fun and lends itself to multiple types of stories, weather you prefer a fun, silly game or a more serious but layed back type of story. Plus, as a bonus, it runs on my fav type of system... D10

and also I played a game called Dread
http://www.tiltingatwindmills.net/
A jinga tower has never been so frighting. The goal is to go through a 'survival horror game' that uses the tower as the deciding factor of who lives and who dies. Everytime you make an action your story teller decides if you need to pull from the tower, and how many blocks you pull based on what you are trying to do. If the tower falls while you are pulling then your character dies.

There was so much stuff going on its hard to go into all of it. There was everything from Battletech simulation pods to stargate minitures game. I was a little overwhelmed by it all, but the people were really nice and though I felt a little under the weather I had alot of fun =D.
We played a lot of D&D 4th edition and I absolutly loved playing my bard. Our DM threw a halfling at us and my gnome bard fought against him. The halfling started throwing insults at me because my dice had turned on me and I was missing him. He would tease me and when he would miss he would say 'look, I'm a BARD!'
I think the best part was when the guys from windmillgames and silvervinegames got together to game and my friends and I were there to watch the rollplaying. The DM decided that since most of the onlookers had characters he would add us to the game by having our characters steal their pirate ship. All of the ship members had to choose one of us to battle to get their ship back. I was playing a Ninja cat and, of course, the 9ft Ogre comes up to me and with a scary russian accent says 'hey, kitty, come here... I fix'  >.>. Now he described his character as holding a big riffle with the painted letters on it saying 'not a gun' cause what are you going to do... argue with him? So ya' we rollplayed the scene with him standing on top of a chair and me sitting down to get the size difference. Of course I did what any respecting Ninja kitty would do, tried to kick his butt... in the end the 9ft ogre with the rifle took me out.

Origins

Next week I'll be going to Ohio for a gaming convention. I've never been to one, so it should be interesting to see all the different games I'll be able to sit in on. I just hope I don't feel too out of place there. I'm going to take some of my artwork since they have a large ammount of artist that usually set up there maybe I'll be able to do a little networking. I actually have some new pieces of art that I'm adding to my portfolio. Maybe I'll be able to build it up to apply to some new jobs soon.

If anything I'll get a week off of work 'WOOT'!

I would love to be able to stay in a private beach house, where you can just sunbathe and listen to the crashing of the ocean waves all day long. If the sun gets hot you can just walk to the ocean and enjoy the cool refreshing water. No loud noise that you get when your in a city, just quiet and calm with no expectations.

Spring forward

SPRING FORWARD!!! It makes me happy cause it means that I get to see more daylight when I'm off of work =D.

I've been thinking of taking my vacation days to visit my grandmother in NY. She always has a nice Easter service planned each year and it will be nice to be there, and I'm sure she would appreciate it as well. I'm not much of a 'church' person but I always enjoy listening to my grandmother's services.

Unlike a lot of the other services I’ve been to she does not stuff religion in your face. They come across more like words of wisdom, ways to just make yourself a better person; not the fire and brimstone services you find in TN.

Going to give this some serious map questing and some thought…
Will update on this later =D

Its my life!

Time goes by so fast, doesn’t it? I swear that it does not feel that long since I last posted here. I haven’t been doing too much out of the ordinary. My Sunday gaming group has started playing Scion. I must say that it is kind of fun, since I do have an interest in mythology. I also took a personal day on Saturday and spent it with friends in C-ville. It was Jason’s birthday and he wanted to play some D&D with his friends. We played 4th edition and it was fun. Jabe downloaded a Character generator onto our computer so we could have something that would keep up with our powers and make characters easy for me to play. It even does the math!!!!!!!!
Jason said that he might try and change out the Saturdays he plays his game so that I would be able to stop by if I wanted to. I admit it would be nice to see John and Jason again, but I don’t know if I would want to spend every Saturday I had off gaming, since I already do it on Sundays. *shrugs* will deal w/ that when it comes around.
Speaking of Saturdays, I was gaming on Valentines Day which means that no special surprise for the holiday and didn’t really get to do anything w/ Jabe. It was kind of sad, but I guess it was good to spend with friends.
I’ve also been trying to exercise every other day to try and keep active. I have to admit I’ve been feeling slightly better since I’ve started. =). *crosses fingers* hopefully I can keep it up and get healthier, its something I should have done quite some time ago.

Dream Journal

Dream Journal 01-08-09

I had a dream where I was in a large lounge area, which appeared to be attached to a mall. There were large couches and areas for people to sit and it was filled with hot guys. Now I'm talking model type hot. There seems to be a contest going on for some kind of dating show/auction... or some type of function. The reason they were there was so they could narrow it down to a select group. The other judges seemed to be at a loss as to how to do it without taking forever. I asked them if they would allow me to step in and try something.
'I've always wanted to do this' I said with one of those stupid grins on my face.
so I asked all the men to stand in a line, up against the wall. I started at one end with a serious look on my face and pointed at each one as I walked by.  'YES,YES,YES,NO, YES, NO, NO, YES, NO' *laughs*
so very blazing saddles, I know.. but I woke up and just made me giggle.

Dresden RPG character

Character name: Kate Staulker
High Concept: Malk / Student
Theme: The struggle between wanting to find her actual parents and her aversion to giving into her fey nature.

Phase 1:             Aspect: Hidden in Plain Sight
It was a crisp fall night, the first hints of winter in the air, as the Malk crept up to the window. It was unlocked, luckily. But it wasn’t as if it would have been a problem either way. Ever so silently she stalked through the shadows of the house and into the Nursery. She saw the child, a new born, just brought home from the hospital.  She should know, after all, she had been waiting for them to bring the young thing home.  The hunter gazed down at her prey 'The best part' she though 'They'll never know'.  When the time was right she would return and claim her child.

There of course were suspicions from Kate’s mother, but the doctor just considered it post partum depression. Though she was truly a fae child, nothing of her early years would tell of her supernatural beginnings. Being an only child of an upper middleclass family had its advantages she had the most of what life had to offer, private schools, tutors, and mostly anything else she needed. It wasn't until age 14 when Kate's powers first emerged. Having a particularly emotional argument with her parents she stormed to her room in her rage her normal green eyes had specs of gold that swirled and blended with her now narrowed pupils that seemed almost cat-like. Not wanting to be a freak she desperately hoped that they would turn back to normal. Slowly it seemed that her will manipulated the appearance of her eyes and could cover up what they truly looked like. In time she found she could manipulate the appearance of objects as well to make an illusion of them being something other then what they were.

Phase 2:            Aspect: Who am I? Really?
Realizing that she wasn't exactly normal she sought out answers to her true identity.  This partially influenced her choice to become a biology major. If she could she would like to find her real parents.  The only reference to her eyes she could find was myths so outlandish that she at first didn't want to believe them.  She however found a coffee shop that pointed her toward the fact that she was part Fae, what was considered a changeling.

At 18 she asked her parents if she could take a trip before college.  Mostly she wanted to travel and take some time to find out what path she wanted to choose. She and a group of friends traveled around Europe, especially France to learn about different fae myths and lore. While she was gone her true mother returned to claim her child, as she had come of age. Finding that she was not with the family she had left her with she became enraged and without hesitation ended the life of the ones who were obviously trying to keep her child from her.

After her 3 years of abroad she got the call about her parent’s murder. It was closed as being a wild animal attack.  It was during this time she got involved in one of the summer knights investigations while he was in Nashville. He told her of her Malk heritage and showed her the consequences of relying on her darker nature as winter fae.

Phase 3:          Aspect: Yes I have slight OCD
Book one -Malkavian Night-
Kate is introduced to the summer knight, Fixx, during his mission to investigate a string of murders linked to the winter court. Kate’s strict eye for detail helps Fixx bring the killers to justice but also gives Kate a glimpse at her darker fae nature.

Phase 4:          Aspect: power corrupts
Book two – 'Hell Hounds' co star in Jabe’s book
Kate helps Victor with a group of hexen wolfs. She projects her own struggle with her dark fae nature on to the hexen wolfs and tries to save them from the temptation of the dark power within the talismans.

Phase 5:          Aspect: I get what I want
Book three- 'Shadows of the past' co star in Kristi’s book
Kate bargains the information of the true father of Ais’s child in exchange for information about her true mother, Unknown that the father was actually the dark wizard that Ais was trying to protect her child from.
