Nashville, TN
Themes of the city (Aspects)
Music City, USA
Buckle of the Bible Belt/ Protestant Vatican
Athens of the South
History, related or altered by The Dresden verse
- Because of the strong faith in this area many of the red court tend to avoid making a home here. This has given the white court a good stronghold on the city of Nashville. They call themselves house Verna and feed on the Hate of mortals. Their kind has shaped history in the south. The current hostility between the denominations of the church is a good example of their influence.
Locations of importance
Union Station: Aspect. Re-envisioning the Past
Looking from the outside the building gives you a sense of stability and power, even overlooked by the symbol of the Greek god of travel himself. The hotel Gives you a since of Southern Royalty as you enter with its high arched ceilings and warm wooden trim. Much like old cathedrals it gives a feeling of being surrounded by something almost spiritual.
A welcome letter from 1900 bridges time itself as the message bids mortals what seems to be safe passage and lodging on their journeys. Reference to a final journey to the beyond or afterlife is just a small glimpse to the fate that some of the visitors meet at the hands of house Verna. Let it not be said that they were not well cared for.
NPC
-Maya Hernandez: Maid
-*Lord Verna
Note: Wyndham Hotel, seat of power for House Verna
Bicentennial Mall: Aspect. In the Shadow of the Capital
Reference to ‘Capital Hill’ might be best to describe the hub of this location. It is a very large hill that hosts the state capital and many of its offices. A lone stretch of green that overlooks a vast city of concrete, it is the perfect spot for the watchers and secret protectors of our city.
NPC
-+Jared Davis Giles - Founder and Head of J.D.G. Protective Services and Investigations
-Katherine Maddox - Senior Investigator
Notes: Office of JDG PSI
Prison: Aspect. ‘Gives me the Wiggins’
The gates are around it for a reason. Though it is not used for prisoners anymore, it does serve to hold many dangerous spirits and other nasties that would seek to do mortals harm. It is best to heed the warning signs and stay away from this harbinger of dark spiritual energy.
NPC
-+Walter Johnson, DOC Officer
-* The Warden
2nd Avenue & Broadway: Aspect. Nightlife
If you want to party like a rock star or if you would even just prefer a fine night of dining this strip is where you would go. These streets house an array of entertainment businesses like recording studios, fine cuisine, and night clubs. You will find many of the college students going here to relax and have a bit of fun. If you’re into something a little more risqué Printers Alley is just a few blocks over.
NPC
-Doug Carter: Biller, college student
Note: Wild Horse Saloon
Opryland: Aspect. Townies and Tourists
You want it, they’ve got it! Even though the amusement park is gone, Opry mills and the surrounding area still serve as a natural tourist magnet. It’s also a good place for locals to hang if they want a day of shopping or just want to catch a movie. If you’re from out of town and want to spend your stay in luxury the Opryland hotel is the place for you. One of the more attractive features of this is their indoor garden, with its own pond; equipped with fountain and light show.
-Brittany Washington: Event Coordinator
Parthenon: Aspect. Ancient history reborn, *It’s the real deal
In true Greek fashion, the appreciation of art and beauty is upheld in what is thought to be the recreation of the Parthenon. In truth, anyone with magical senses can tell that it is far older then its suggested creation date.
NPC
-Dr. George Philip Henry: Curator, old black southerner
Notes: It’s the real deal.
Vanderbilt: Aspect. Questioning the Unknown
Vanderbilt is very much a college district filled with stores of all types (several of the fast food variety). The University is ranked among the top 20 in the country for medicine; education, law, and nursing. They have one of the top funded research facilities mostly noted for medial advancement. However, what is little known is that there is a very small group dedicated to the study of the supernatural. It is classified and only a select few know about this research facility. After all, trying to find cure to a red court bite, poisoning human blood against vampires, or exstending human life via supernatural grafting is not easily logged in the books. Most of their information is reported to the secret organization Venatori Umbrorum to help further their cause.
NPC
- + Victoria Zebari - Venatori Umbrorum
- +Sophia and Anne Keller: Run BMS
Notes: +Body, Mind, & Spirit: A café/novelty store placed in a renovated house. It caters to the supernatural community and is antiquated.
Grassmere: Aspect. Slaves of Mankind
Located six miles (10 km) southeast of downtown, Grassmere used to be a wild life park. It is now the new location of the Nashville Zoo and home to a historic plantation farmhouse. The zoo is active in numerous research and conservation activities including participating in a number of programs for the Species Survival Plan.
-+Tara Th’rone: Elephant Shaman that works on the reserve
*The Rails: Aspect. Unseen and forgotten
The Rails are a series of underground passage ways that are mostly used by the supernatural. Openings to them can be found through out the city, or possibly in old houses. The mundane would have called a portion of this ‘the underground railroad’. It has become a very dangerous place with portions of it breaking through to the never never. Little is known as to how much the residence of the Rails have expanded on the original tunnels. You don’t go lurking around these unless you’re looking for trouble.
Who cares about the city? The people most involved in the city would be the humans, Vampires (mostly the white court), and the Fae
Who keeps the peace? The police try to keep things under control but when it comes to the supernatural J.D.G. Protective Services and Investigations handle most of the dirty work.
How do mortals cope? Religion and praying (this could be why there is not an appearance by the red court for this city) you will also notice that several of the communities are very proactive with the protection of their neighbors and tend to have their own neighborhood watches in effect.
What supernatural communities are there? The main ones that would be known to the public, or people that dig a little for information would be the group that hangs out at the ‘body, mind, and spirit café’, a group that calls themselves ‘the cult of Athena’ and also some less then reputable groups that hang around the rails.
What interests a supernatural tourist? There are always paranormal investigation groups that want to investigate the old prison. There are Ghost stories connected with most of the old buildings in Nashville… it’s just a matter of picking the ones you’re interested in.
